About AIMS
The ability to successfully and effectively manage anger and stress in your daily life is critical to personal and professional success. Healthy communication involves two essential skills: speaking and listening. You have the right to say what you want to say, but you can't do it in an abusive or intimidating way. Good communication requires negotiation and compromise ... "If somebody has to win an argument someone else has to lose it" and since we are not hard-wired to prefer losing, the opportunity for healthy, solution-oriented communication is lost.
AIMS Anger Intervention and Management Services is a private, Virginia-based, certified and recognized provider of Anger Management Programs exclusively designed for adults. Client referrals to our certified Anger Management programs are routinely made by Virginia and out-of-state Domestic Relations and Criminal court systems; county, city and state agencies; family service organizations; attorneys; physicians; mental health professionals; medical and dental practices; corporate, hospital, private and government employee assistance programs (EAP); law enforcement agencies; military branches; professional and college athletes; human resource managers (HR); as well as concerned family members, parents and partners. Our clients are exposed to extraordinary program models designed to help them understand that although "we don't have control over our feelings, we can control our thoughts." The key is the ability to recognize destructive interactions (hostility, rage, manipulation, etc.) and replace them with constructive interactions (assertiveness, rephrasing, stating needs and compromise). Attempting to implement one without recognizing the other would potentially be as beneficial as "screen doors on a submarine".
AIMS programs are "psycho-educational" not "psychotherapy" or "mental health counseling". Anger is a secondary reaction to a primary emotion (learned behavior) not a clinical (mental health) condition. Referrals for psychotherapeutic or mental health counseling services are available for those who require or request these services. As with any learning environment, individual results will vary according to the degree of motivation you are prepared to invest in the program process.
